It looks like the comedy is funny, but this comedy show have a great message for those who can understand it. In this movie, the families are fighting on an issue. What the family doesn’t realize is the effect that it has on there kid. The wife was complaining that her kids are not listening her. In my opinion, they are not listening to her because the mother is not being responsible. When parents do not take the responsibilities for their children as an adult, children will take control in thing they do. There are three things I point out in the movie that contained irresponsible action. The first thing would be the irresponsibility of the husband. The husband is not working for his family to provide the families need as well as helping around the house chores. This is an indication to the audience that this family is going through. The second message that is included in this episode was the children’s behavior outside their home. The history teacher was discussing about child. Children who tend to have problems at home will often affect how they perform in school. When child’s mother is presented with her the child’s problem she does not want to admit the problem. Instead she argues that the problem the teacher rise is not right. At this point she is showing that the problem the child has is unsolvable without a corporation from the parents. In my opinion, the mother knows that her husband is not providing what is needed for their children while she’s away working in the factory. The third most relevant point that the comedy has was about social class. It shows how working class struggles to sustain their life.

Roseanne

It’s great to see a working class family with a sense of humor to ease the struggles of making ends meet. Trying to hold a family together with lower income jobs isn’t an easy task, especially with 3 children. I also see Roseanne has come to terms with the ways things are, she realizes that things may not change and that’s why she uses humor to cope with it all. Other characters try to look to deep into things and Roseanne just brushes it off. I believe she knows the value of family and how it works in the working class world. The dad, Dan, also uses humor to escape responsibility. Although this family uses a lot of comedy, they also seem under educated, but street smart and quick witted. Even when things get into a slightly heated moment, one of the children cut their fingers, and both parents stop fighting and tend to the child like they weren’t arguing at all. They realize, that there are more important things to worry about.

Bank of America. you should be ashamed!

https://pod51000.outlook.com/owa/redir.aspx?C=wGDgRANYZ0q77h1QGkbq0W62ad95YM4IgrSWnutlI6htnCwLb0j1Dm1RKpw0oQcKnc-aYonW9Ko.&URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.change.org%2fpetitions%2ftell-bank-of-america-no-5-debit-card-fees%3futm_source%3daction_alert%26utm_medium%3demail%26alert_id%3dOEahYrjqsd_iliKOMmoyB

I received this email and video link from Michael Whitney from Change.org, it’s about Bank of America’s CEO adding a $5 debit card fee per month to the customers card. Really? I mean it, Really? You’re already making a ton of money off of these people and now you’re charging them more? COME ON! We as Americans are having a hard enough time everyday trying to pay bills, feed our children, or taking care of ourselves for that matter. Why does Bank Of America feel it necessary to charge $60 a year for a service that should be free as a customer? So what? Well, I guess if Bank of America wants to charge someone, it should be customers with more than $100,000 in their account, not $600. Look at what happened with Netflix recently, they hiked up their rates to customers on certain services. Guess what happened next? Yep, you guessed it, the customers left, I being a Netflix customer that didn’t leave, but my rate didn’t raise, received an apology via email and that they were going back to the normal rates. I think companies in America should start seeing the trend going on, raising prices = losing customers. What happened to companies being loyal to their customers? Doing whatever it takes to keep them? I guess in failing economy nowadays, companies like Bank Of America are feeling the pinch of having to cut costs and laying off employees, but what made your company successful in the first place? Customers maybe? Yeah, think about that Banks before humanity starts putting their money underneath the mattress again.

The Social Use of Social Media - A Blogpost by Group 3

The blog site Soshable.com has it right. Everything we know about television and advertising has changed, thanks to social networking giants like Facebook and Twitter. Even television has been revolutionized, thanks to video technologies such as YouTube, Hulu, and Netflix. Now you can hear of - or even witness - current events before they have a chance at making it to the cable news channels. So, we have finally removed the shackles of the corporate media conglomerates, right? Wrong. Businesses have just found a new way to control their audiences: convince people that they want to promote a brand image (ever seen a viral product video?).

As described throughout Soshable, we now have online communities which segment into their own particular demographics, and this, in turn, gives businesses easy-to-target audiences. More than ever before, social networking has become a means rather than an ends, and that means is called capitalism. However, J.D. Rucker - the primary, strategic voice behind Soshable - explains to businesses that social networking is not just about the numbers, it’s also about the people. And, he goes on to describe the importance of looking at how people are using social media. If it wasn’t for the fact that Rucker has a vested interest in social media, his thoughts might almost seem to be trying to benefit the online community (altruistic, even).

But, this does not mean that social media is entirely superficial. From bridging generational gaps to assisting human rights protests, social media enables a broader spectrum of content to reach a growing number of people. And, as such, social networking, is just like any other powerful entity - it can be used for freedom or for control.

Q & A

Questions:
  1. Overall, do you find social media helpful or harmful to society?
    • Does Shoshable seem to support or negate your position?
  2. Do you think there are “wrong ways” to use social networking?
    • Why?
    • What are some ways J.D. Rucker might consider as “wrong” for social networking?
  3. Do you think online media creates new social classes, or do online social classes merely reflect “real life”?
    • Which social classes does Soshable discuss?
    • Which social classes does Soshable create?

Blog post #5

In today’s society we have developed in may different ways, especially in technology. Technology plays a tremendous role in our daily lives, one which involves robots. In many pharmacy’s today there are robots that can do the jobs of pharmacy technicians. They are capable of counting and delivering the right quantity of medication that have to be ready for patient. Robots are capable of doing what humans have develop and do things ordered by humans. Even though robots are a great thing to have, they can never think as humans. Humans have the great mind that is capable of developing many advanced things; such as computers, television, phones, airplane and so many more. Robots are the products of humans so I don’t think they can be reversed. The disadvantage of advance technology is the increase of dependability of humans on these technology. An example would be the operation of airline pilots. The airline technician depends on the computer who manage them to get to their destination. Through time, these educated pilots get adapted to the computer system and forget their own skill that is requires to manage the flight.

Education is also influenced by technology. In todays society, one thing that has developed over time is taking an on-line class. In my opinion, this is taking the traditional way of teaching. Taking classes on-line can block the real interaction with your professor as well as your classmate. Taking on-line classes maybe a convenient utility that is offered in most colleges today, but this is making our generation lazy.

The source I found is very useful work of art. This picture have very detail within it to teach society how violence affect women. The core message of the image is to expose domestic violence against woman. The purpose of the picture can be known by looking at visible scene of woman’s face. The image try to teach the community to save woman’s at risk of this violence. The picture appeared in a way that people see the importance of it. This work of art, lets the audience know the adventure the woman faced. From this picture I want to know more about the domestic violence, and how community can be hurt by this kind of violence. The picture focus on women only but does this violence affect other household members? I want to go in depth to know how women can be helped to speak out their emotion. why women chose to be silent to this problem?

Moving Forward to a Time of Job Replacement

Personally, I find the series Time of Eve quite interesting.  Why do I find it interesting?  Well, inside the relatively short series (it's only six episodes), there's a lot going on.  A futuristic Japan has been presented.  And, as androids become more and more like their human counterparts, androids are capable of replacing many roles normally held by humans.  In order to combat this trend of human replacement, an ethics commitee has been formed in order to propagate messages indicating that too much android appreciation leads one to be an "android holic".  ...Yup, that pretty much sums up the key reasoning behind why I find the series so interesting.  However, do all these detail mean?  That's where I'm hoping secondary sources will help me.

In regard to androids replacing human roles, I intend to search "effects of mechanization to factory workers".  From personal stories such as that of Mike Lefevre (Terkel 319) to overviews of the robotic processes now popular at car manufactures such as Ford, I believe there to be a number of interesting details to be pulled.  Further, what happens if there is too much mechanization; or, more pointedly, what happens if jobs are moved from social class to another?

As mentioned earlier, "Android Holic" is seen as a trending phrase in the media of Time of Eve.  This phrase, along with numerous other propaganda movements held by the Ethics Comitee, show strong resemblances to present-day protests regarding outsourcing work to foreigners.  At least, this is a belief of mine - one that I will be exploring through further research.

When it comes down to it, I am really curious to see what assumptions Time of Eve is making toward human job replacement - a real trend that is happening in the present day. Further, I am excited to see how and why there might exist a campaign that promotes avoiding a particular entity to perform labor.

What do I need to know?

I believe that there are many angles to view from when trying to analyze my source, The Jetsons “Family Fallout”. One angle is from the Jetsons’ point of view. They are a futuristic middle class family who seem happy with everything that they have going for them, even though they have some financial struggles. The Jetsons being a lower class than Mr. Spacely, and him trying to use that against them on television. Mr. Spacely believes because they are a lower class than him, that they won’t be as smart, and in turn, lose the game. The Jetsons want to win the money from the show to help with their finances. Also, the Jetsons’ have no idea they will be competing against the Spacelys’ until the start of the game show. Mr. Spacely uses the game show also to promote his business, using network television for social marketing. I think I need to know more about why he wants to use The Jetsons for personal gain, and why George subjects himself to be treated like a disposable employee from his boss. Then again why does anyone? To stay employed, right? Why wouldn’t Mr. Spacely use George more efficiently, maybe use him in a different way, a better way, to help his company succeed. So, Mr. Spacely who is upper class is using a middle class family to show his competitor Mr. Cogswell (also upper class) that he is a smarter, stronger competitor.

- What other companies or employers have you heard of that have used employees/people for personal gain?

- Does being in a certain class make you less/more valuable?
