I believe that there are many angles to view from when trying to analyze my source, The Jetsons “Family Fallout”. One angle is from the Jetsons’ point of view. They are a futuristic middle class family who seem happy with everything that they have going for them, even though they have some financial struggles. The Jetsons being a lower class than Mr. Spacely, and him trying to use that against them on television. Mr. Spacely believes because they are a lower class than him, that they won’t be as smart, and in turn, lose the game. The Jetsons want to win the money from the show to help with their finances. Also, the Jetsons’ have no idea they will be competing against the Spacelys’ until the start of the game show. Mr. Spacely uses the game show also to promote his business, using network television for social marketing. I think I need to know more about why he wants to use The Jetsons for personal gain, and why George subjects himself to be treated like a disposable employee from his boss. Then again why does anyone? To stay employed, right? Why wouldn’t Mr. Spacely use George more efficiently, maybe use him in a different way, a better way, to help his company succeed. So, Mr. Spacely who is upper class is using a middle class family to show his competitor Mr. Cogswell (also upper class) that he is a smarter, stronger competitor.
- What other companies or employers have you heard of that have used employees/people for personal gain?
- Does being in a certain class make you less/more valuable?
